lavonneluquisI won a New America Media Award for an article I published on Latino.com about a Latina comedienne named Marga Gomez in 2001. I didn’t understand completely WHY at the time, but almost 10 years later, after seeing La Marga perform at the Colony Theater in Miami Beach this past January, I realize it’s because Marga represented a very particular market: the smart, suburban Latina who speaks predominately English.
