Submit! Many Writers-One Voice At Bookstore in the Grove

The human experience is vast but the emotional response is the same. The Miami Writer’s Association is inviting all local writers to submit a chapter/poem of their work for the purposes of creating a spoken word cohesive piece on November 11, 2009 at Bookstore in the Grove. This is perfect for all you writers out there who want to get a feel for what it’s like to read during Miami Book Fair International, which takes place November 8-15, 2009.

Join local writers in celebration of this art form. We welcome submissions of poetry, articles, books, short stories, etc….Judges are the officers of the Miami Writers Association: Melanie Feliciano, Alejandra Fernandez, Lee and Paul Reyes-Fournier and Angello Pizarro.

Winners will be reading alongside published authors Jay Jay Colagrande and Caridad Moro-McCormick (see their bios below).

Eligibility:
• Manuscript submissions (hereafter the “Submissions”) must be original.
• All Submissions must be in English. Submissions must not violate copyright laws; must contain properly cited material, if applicable.
• Writers retain all copyrights to their work.
• By entering this Competition, you agree that if you are selected, you will participate in the reading at Bookstore in the Grove and willing to have your work published online by the Miami Writer’s Association.
• All submissions must be less than 2,000 words.
• All submissions must be submitted electronically. We will not open any attachments. Please include the following information and submission within the body of the email.

About the Featured Authors:

•    Caridad Moro-McCormick is a first-generation Cuban-American; born in L.A. and raised in Miami.  She holds a B.A. in English and an M.F.A. from Florida International University.  This year her chapbook, Visionware, was published by Finish Line Press as part of their celebrated New Women’s Voices Series. She’s the recipient of the state’s Florida Artist Fellowship. Cari is a professor of English at Miami Dade College, as well as an English instructor for Dade County Public Schools.

•    J.J. Colagrande was born and raised in Long Island, New York before settling in Miami. He has been a contributing writer for the Miami Herald, Miami New Times, 944, Closer, and the Sun Sentinel. J.J. earned his M.F.A. in Creative Writing from Florida International University. He currently works as an Adjunct Professor at Miami Dade College teaching Writing and Literature.  J.J. has also previously taught at The University of Arizona.  His fiction pieces have been published in Carve, Big Bridge, Mary, Facets, and many more. His latest fiction work ‘Headz’ has recently been published and has received great reviews.
